Clint is joined by Kate Dunbar, as they discuss Kate’s recent adventures on the set of the upcoming series ‘1883’, the prequel to the hit show ‘Yellowstone‘ on the Paramount Network. Experience the west as you’ve never done before! Tag along on the journey back in time to the set of ‘1883’ in this week’s episode of the RV Small Talk podcast.

A Bit About Kate Dunbar

Pictured above, Kate and her two amazing kids, Paige and Andrew, have been a part of the filming! All while sharing space in their 2021 Airstream Flying Cloud (25 ft.) with twin beds. The twin beds are the key to success, according to Kate, for everyone to survive the grueling schedule and personal space. Kate’s book, Campground Gourmet: Simple, Delicious Recipes in the Great Outdoors, is a must have for camping enthusiasts who wish to go far beyond burgers and hotdogs! Nothing beats enjoying the great open spaces with a gourmet campfire dinner.

Conditions on a Closed Location Set

We’ve all wondered what it’s like to work, eat and sleep on the set of an old western, right? Well, if you haven’t spent anytime on the subject, Kate’s first hand experiences may leave you smiling comfortably from your temperature controlled, running water and electricity accessible home with regular WIFI and cellular service. However, you may be starting to understand the complexities of providing all these services to all of those involved in the filming of a TV show, but as Kate explained, knowing is only half of the battle.

Experiencing walking 10 plus miles in a full wool outfit with props and gear for a few minute scene showing the caravan moving across the open plains was a testament to sheer willpower of the actors and crew.

1883 Prequel to Yellowstone

If you’re new to the franchise, Yellowstone showcases, ‘Kevin Costner is the marquee attraction of the ensemble cast in this drama series, starring as the patriarch of a powerful, complicated family of ranchers. A sixth-generation homesteader and devoted father, John Dutton controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. He operates in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations and land grabs make developers billions. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton’s property is in constant conflict with those it borders — an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park,’ according to Rotten Tomatoes. Sure sounds like an amazing historical drama with gratuitous opportunity for action, too.

1883 takes a raw look back at the Dutton family before they founded their Montana cattle ranch and the realities of the covered wagon life. Which gives viewers insight into a world mostly portrayed by traditional westerns and cowboy action shows. However, you’ll want to tune in to find out how the Dutton family ranch grew to be what John Dutton strives to protect.
