When Is The Right Time To Buy An RV?

That’s the ultimate question. One thing you should consider when purchasing an RV is what type of camping you plan to do. From there, you can start breaking down the units that might be right for you.

Where Did Price Increases Come From?

In 2019/2020, RVs were at least 20-30% cheaper than they are now. During the pandemic, it was a challenge to get new units or even parts to the dealership. Due to supply chain issues, the price from the manufacturer went up and we had to adjust our prices from there. This is when we started seeing the price increase on new and used units. Though we don’t see pricing going down tremendously, we might see a slow decrease as parts become more readily available at the manufacturers’ level.

Dealers Are All Overstocked

With new 2024 units making their arrival in just a few months, many dealerships are scrambling to get their New 2022 units off the lot. This makes it the perfect time to buy for someone who has been on the fence about purchasing a new RV. At Princess Craft, we are discounting our new 2022 units up to 40% off. We’re not alone in this, deals like this are happening across multiple dealerships due to a slowdown in the demand for campers. Though the ‘23s and even the ‘24s might have some features that the ‘22s don’t, this is the time to see what your must-haves are when purchasing a trailer and getting the best rate.

Why would dealerships sell below cost?

When a trailer arrives at a dealership, they take out a credit line, known as flooring. As a unit sits on a dealer’s lot, they pay interest on it. After a year or so, the interest rate goes up. Eventually, dealers end up paying for the unit. This is where these blowout deals come from. These new ’22 units still have the same full warranty offered from a ‘23 or even ’24.

Buying Used Units in 2020-2021

As we got further into the pandemic, people turned to RVs for many different reasons – doctors were camping in trailers to keep their families safe, and people were wanting to get out of their houses and go on trips with low risk. Because of the higher demand, both new and used trailers were priced at top dollar.

Fast forward to the present day, if you purchased during that peak time, you’re most likely going to get less for your trailer. Used units are gauged by the NADA and Kelly Blue Book, so when prices increase, does trade value and vice versa. The reality that we’re dealing with now is that the trade-in value is dropping due to the total number of used units out there.

There is also a high possibility that the used units you’re looking at are still priced higher than certain 2022 new units at this time.

What’s next?

The market is currently in a correction stage, but luckily, it’s starting to stabilize. If you’ve been thinking about buying an RV, new 2022 units need to leave the dealership’s lot, meaning you’re going to get the best price for a new unit now!
