In this episode of the RV Small Talk Podcast, we’re talking about ways to make your life easier and safer. From Mountain Lions to Mold & Mildew, we’ve got answers to questions you didn’t even know you had!
First, Some RV Industry News!
In March, shipments from manufacturers to the dealers were down 51% – meaning half of the RVs were shipped out. This was caused by a few things – dealers still have many 2022s they need to get rid of first, and people slowed down in buying, meaning dealers were stocked up.
There will be about a 30% drop from last year to this year and motorhomes are down 20%. So, if you’re looking for deals, this is your time to shop and buy. Overall, RV dealers are in an adjustment period after the last few years.
Cougars, Pumas, Mountain Lions, OH MY!
Sightings are rare, but they happen! California and Colorado have the largest mountain lion population in the U.S followed by Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, and Texas. You will find packs mostly in secluded areas around the US, but what do you do if you see one?
Don’t turn around, run, or crouch down. If you crouch or run, you will be looked at as prey causing the lion to attack. Face the lion head-on and make yourself look bigger. If it starts walking towards you, start throwing whatever you can at its body, avoiding its head.
More than anything, be prepared for the outdoor excursions you plan to take on your camping trips, including signs around you.
How to Avoid Mold & Mildew
While your RV is in storage, it’s easy for mold and mildew to grow inside the camper due to the moisture in the air as the weather changes throughout the seasons. We have a few tips to keep your trailer protected.
Traveling with a dehumidifier is a great option while on the road. By opening up your cabinets and letting it run, you can eliminate a lot of moisture in the air.
Moving air is your friend! When using propane make sure that your fans are on and windows are open. In the end, make sure you are cleaning up your trailer after trips and even check in on your unit when it’s in storage.
