What kind of items do we suggest to prepare for messes and fun on our camping trips? We’re diving into items we have in our “Ick Kit” that ensure our camping trip goes off without a hitch. Let us know if we missed any items included in your Ick Kit!
That’s not all we’re chatting about! Clint, Lindsay, and special guest Cody dive into some interesting recipes they want to try on their next RV adventure!
Lastly, we’ll look at the shift in weather that’s expected in 2023 and what that means for your travel plans.
How To Prep For Your Camping Trip With an Ick Kit
Baby Wipes Or Wet Wipes:
- Not only are these great to have on hand at the campsite, but they are also perfect to have when you’re on a hike.
Bug Remover:
- While traveling, chances are you are going to run into some bug guts. This can be damaging on your camper. Getting a bottle of bug remover is always good to have on hand to clean up when you get to the campsite, or after your trip when washing the entire trailer.
Microfiber Towels & Rags:
- We’d mark this as a must have! They can be used on essentially any surface within a camper – windows, sinks, showers, tubs, counters, floors, etc. We’ve used many different brands; they’re all great and get the job done. Make sure to load up on Microfiber towels and rugs!
Nitrile/Latex Gloves:
- We know this is probably obvious, but gloves are great for dumping grey and black tanks. Not only that, but gloves are also good to have on hand when doing basic maintenance on your trailer or if you’re dealing with chemicals. Trust us, you don’t want to touch grease or other petroleum products with bare hands.
- Honorable mentions include rubber gloves and work gloves. These can help you avoid basic cuts, abrasions, and puncture wounds when doing things like hooking up the tow vehicle, messing with jacks, or even just packing up camp.
Basic Cleaners:
- Dawn is an easy go-to for all sorts of cleaning and disinfecting tasks. It’s also among the least harmful to the environment and septic systems. If you’re looking for a natural alternative, there are lots of surfaces within a travel trailer that you can clean with white vinegar.
Toilet Care:
- When dealing with a toilet in an RV, we prefer something RV-specific and non-abrasive for plastic toilet bowls. However, abrasives can work great for porcelain toilets – just remember that abrasives might have the effect of wearing out seals in your RV’s black tank equipment. Bad seals can make for bad days.
- RV black tank treatment of your choosing. We like the enzymatic ones because they work well and they’re great for RV park septic situations.
Surface Disinfectants:
- Disinfectant wipes are always great to have on hand and they are easy to travel with! In addition, we’d suggest also having a second multi-surface as a backup.
Floor Products:
- Having a broom and dustpan are go-to items for us. However, you can’t beat Swiffer products, or similar, when you’re ready to clean up after a weekend of fun!
- A handheld vacuum is a good one to have on hand as well for faster cleanup and can help pick up tracks of dirt or sand.
- Fabrics or upholstery cleaners will help your RV stay looking new for years to come. Make sure to do your due diligence and always research the product you choose to make sure it’s made for your specific needs and fabric type.
Keep your cleaning materials in an easy-to-reach and organized situation. You’ll be more inclined to do your chores, and the results will be more satisfying if the tasks are easier from start to finish. If you love your schedules at home, you’ll probably love a cleaning schedule for your longer RV outings!

2023 Travel Weather
Regions can expect more rain than normal and cooler temperatures throughout the whole season. Because of this, we can expect fewer active hurricanes and fewer named storms. In addition, the winter months will probably have fewer snowy days but lower temperatures.
So what does that mean for your camping adventures?
For us in Texas, we’ll probably be outside a bit more this summer than usual with the lower temperatures! Lastly, make sure to always check your weather before making a trip out to the campgrounds, and if you’re going off-grid check the overcast to ensure you have enough Solar Power to last.
