How do you know if you’re really getting a good deal on an RV? What should you look out for in deals and promotions? We’ve got your answers and insights to help you navigate through the RV buying process and share some of the RV Dealership sales tactics out there!

Emotions and Expectations

We understand that buying an RV is a huge expense. This is something you’ve most likely saved up for, given lots of time and attention to, researched, and the list goes on and on. With all these things in mind, there is a lot of emotion and expectation that goes into the buying process. So, what should you look for?

How Do You Know If It’s A Good Price?

A few things to consider first. Go in knowing your budget and what you want your monthly payment to be. Next, before you go into the dealership, it’s always good to shop around to see who has the best deal. However, this can get tricky. Make sure the RV’s you’re finding online all include the same features. Something as simple as a solar package could make the price increase by hundreds or even thousands. A lot of times, dealerships will give you the actual price of the RV and not the drive-out price. Keep in mind additional fees that can be added during the finance process. This could include show out price, extra batteries, extended warranty, etc. So, it’s always good to ask the salesperson up front what additional fees will be added on, if any.

That’s One Spiffy Deal

More than likely, your salesperson works off commission and might even get spiffs if they sell one manufacturer’s product over another. When it comes time to look at your options, make sure to remember all the research and expectations you had before walking in.

Trade-Ins

Have an old truck, boat, jet ski, or anything in between? Not all dealerships will take these types of units, so always ask beforehand to make sure your trade will be accepted. As a business, dealerships need to be profitable in some way with every deal closed. So, if your trade-in price is what you’re interested in, you might get charged more for the trailer. For example, if you owe $22,000 on your trade-in and want to get at least that, chances are you won’t get as much of a deal/price reduction on the new RV you’re looking to purchase.

Focus On What You’re Paying For The Trailer

The four things we want you to keep in mind are the price for the trailer, trade-in, how much you’re putting down, and the monthly payment. Know what you want and how much you want to pay monthly. There’s a lot to look at in a dealership and it’s easy to sway away from what you came in looking for. At the end of the day, have fun during the buying process and know your salesperson is looking out for you!
